The debate about whether cats or dogs are has been ongoing since the beginning of the 2000s. Many people say dogs are better because they are energetic and loving, while others say cats are more than that. This rivalry has also created many stereotypes about both. Dogs are crazy and rambunctious, while cats are devious and mess-makers. In the ad "Cat :30 | Allstate Mayhem," Allstate portrays the "cat stereotypes by showing Mayhem as a cat trying to promote their home insurance.

Showing the audience what your pet could do to your house with the comedy Mayhem presents hopefully convinces viewers that they should get home insurance, for example, Allstate. The intended audience is anyone with a home with pets because you never know what could happen when looking away. Allstate hopes that by using the comedy of Mayhem causing a mess to the house like a cat, you might consider going with the best option, Allstate. This ad can be seen as funny because of Mayhem's ridiculous actions and the mess it's causing. Even in American culture, most people might go with insurance that doesn't cover the crazy things like Mayhem does, but by using Allstate, you won't have to deal with finding the money to fix something. Don't assume the worst won't happen because Mayhem might come along and ruin your day. After reading this, I hope you consider what kind of insurance you have and how or why an ad is funny or crazy. Who knows, you'll accidentally get Mayhem as a cat, and he'll be a menace to you.
