Entry #9 - McDonalds and its Uprising

The first ever fast food chain to be made was White Castle. Its first location was in Wichita, Kansas, in 1921, resulting in several more fast-food chains appearing a couple of years later. KFC in 1930, McDonald's and Dairy Queen in 1940, and Chick-fil-A in 1946 were some companies to open within the next thirty years. But the one that is the most popular is McDonald's, owning just over forty thousand locations. However, when it first started, it wasn't always so popular.

It was 1948 when the brothers Maurice and Richard McDonald converted their barbecue restaurant into a burger and milkshake place. This was in San Bernardino, California, but in reality, it was the second food industry business: a hot dog stand they ran near the Santa Anita track. They had hoped that it would pay off by focusing on burgers, fries, and shakes and selling them at a lower price than other restaurants. They could only achieve this by having a self-serve counter where the customer would come up and get the food, premake the burgers, and keep them warm under heat lamps. By incorporating these methods into the factory line design that other companies did, McDonald's rose above their competitors. They ended up calling coining this improved system the Speedee Service System. Ray Kroc, a kitchen appliance salesman, had their attention caught by this, resulting in him buying the rights to franchise McDonald's restaurants nationwide. It was in 1955 when Kroc created the McDonald's System, Inc., which ended up being the predecessor to McDonald's Corp. He opened his first franchised location in Des Plaines, Illinois. A couple of years later, in 1961, Kroc bought Maurice and Richard out, ultimately running the company himself. After this, he became a traveling salesman, selling franchises from place to place; about a year later, McDonald's created the iconic golden arches and Ronald McDonald. Ever since then, they've been growing more and more across the world, like Moscow, Australia, and even opening a restaurant in Vietnam.

From its humble beginning as a hot dog stand to having more than forty thousand locations, McDonald's has become an iconic and successful business over the years and could grow even more as the years go by. After reading this, I hope you've learned a little bit about the beginnings of McDonald's and how it grew as the years went by.

Entry #1 - What About a Hobby?

Most people usually have an activity or hobby that they enjoy doing. Some do it because they're bored, and others do it because they want to learn a new skill or enjoy it, whether they are good at it or not. Some popular hobbies are reading a book, doing a puzzle, cooking, running, and the list could go on and on. I enjoy many things as hobbies, like playing video games, paintball or airsoft, working on clocks, and even soccer. But my favorite hobby out of them all is four-wheeling.  By  Luis Valencia  - Pexels People drive vehicles daily, most of the time just to and from work, and some drive ones that are used as a daily driver but can also go off-road. Having a 4x4 truck while traveling on unpaved roads for work is extremely helpful because you can put the car in 2WD when in town but switch to 4WD if you need the extra traction. Four-wheeling is usually referred to when you're in a vehicle with four wheels off-road. Whenever I have time to go out with friends, I typ...

Entry #8 - Tires and The Importance of Maintaining Them

Every day, people drive to and from work in their vehicles, their primary means of transportation. With it being such a crucial thing that people need, they must take care of it. One of the ways that people can do is the tires on their car. Though a regular but not frequent thing that needs to be replaced, only a few know the importance of it, with the rest just doing it because they are told to by their mechanic, family, or friends. Tires are the only thing that makes contact with the road, making them a crucial part of being able to drive. It affects not just the vehicle's handling but the vehicle's safety, ride, and braking. If not taken care of properly, it can result in something like needing to replace more than just the tire or something more severe like a crash. However, these situations can be easily avoided by knowing a few simple things to look for. One of the simplest things that one could check is their tread depth. This is important because the tread on the tire m...

Entry #7 - "FRESH": What Goes On In Farms Today?

Fresh: having its original qualities unimpaired. Fresh is what most people think that foods in the grocery store are. But in reality, most of the grown food, particularly in the US, has lost its essential nutrients. In the movie " Fresh ," they talk about food production in America, how it's changed over the years, and what some people do to make nutrient-rich and healthier food. Fresh hopes to translate the issues industrialization has had on farming, like monocultures, manure lagoons, and unnutritious foods. Fresh (2009 film) They show these problems in the movie by introducing several different farmers, some using mainly pesticides and artificial fertilizer and others working their farms as they would be in nature. For example, Joel Salatin, a sustainable farmer from Swoope, Virginia, moves his cows from pasture to pasture to imitate what they would do in the wild, "always moving." Doing this avoids what leading industrialized farms do: feeding dead things to...
